Rooms: Paradisus refurbished rooms in the tower with oceanview beat the Fiesta Americana's standard room. But standard rooms at the FA beat the old rooms at the Paradisus (old rooms are pretty shabby and chances are good that you'll get a garden view, not ocean view).

Beach: The Paradisus has a much larger and longer beach, but a pier built next door at El Cozumeleno sometimes clouds the water. When it's clear, it's an easy entry for good swimming (but not much in the way of snorkeling). The beach at the FA is real small and across the street from the hotel, but has some decent snorkeling, I'm told.

Crowds: Depends on when you go. If you go to the Paradisus in high season, you're apt to find lots of families, on account of the all-inclusive. I'm guessing that because the FA isn't a true all-inclusive hotel, you'll find fewer crowds. However, that being said, the FA is a southern hotel, close to the reefs, so you're apt to find more divers.
