first time

Looking into a vacation to Cozumel for the first time.
Are there options besides the large resorts? Can one find a small, family operated hotel? Looking for something less boisterous than a resort...but want to be _really_ close to the beach.

Also...best flight connections from the Pacific Northwest? Does Horizon fly there?
