Like most people we report good and bad about the Allegro:

Bad stuff - Dont take a room next to the pool snack bar. It's noisy and a janitor cleans it every morning about 2 am! Radio, singing, banging of pots and pans. Building 45 is right next to the kitchen.

Our room (4515) had a noisy wall a/c (which helped mask the outside noises) but you will probably run it non-stop. Cozumel in July was hot and humid! The room also had a persistent mildew smell. The grounds near the lobby and past the outdoor stage have a strong sewage smell most of the time. Didn't experience this anywhere else in the resort.
Certain times of the day and night, service is slow at the pool snack bar for food and drinks. I did not like the bartenders here. Avoid it if you can around 5 - 6 pm and 8 - 10. Snack bar food is also very fatty - chips and guac, hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, pizza, fried fish, poppers, etc.
All inclusive fee of $55.00 per person per day ONLY includes food and drink. Do NOT believe the RCI web site or paperwork if you are trading into Allegro.

Good stuff - I am a food nazi, gourmet cookist for 20 some years, and found the food to be very good, varied, fresh and well prepared. Their omelettes are exceptional! I think it's the fresh eggs. They provide pasta, 'meat and potatoes', salad, fresh fruit and dessert choices at every meal in their Topaz dining room. Service is excellent. The adjacent bar and bartenders are very good and friendly. Tip them and you will be well treated. The resort staff were very friendly and helpful. If you want to avoid eating in the large Topaz dining room, you can make reservations at one of their two restaurants: Caruso's (Italian) or La Troje (Mexican).

The grounds are very well maintained. There are 2 large pools - one for the kids and the other for the adults (has a swim up bar). They also have a kiddie land area with a much smaller pool and playhouse.

Fiesta tour people in the lobby, are helpful and efficient. You can rent a car or book things to do on the island. We booked the flight to Chichen Itza - very good!
Stage shows, like pool activities are tailored toward a young crowd, even children. Very good for keeping kids busy.
Allegro has a dock and since it is so close to the best dive sites, it's a short boat ride to the reefs. Dive Palancar is the dive shop associated with Allegro. Pretty good, you must tell them what kind of diving you want to do, and they will accomodate with few exceptions. William, Gustabeto and Miguel are the best dive guides, go with them if possible. Avoid Luis and Carlo, both too young to realize who is paying for the dive. We brought all our gear with the exception of our weight belts. We didn't book any dives ahead of time and they had no poblem accomodating us even with leess than 24 hours notice. You do have to check out your own weight belt and carry it to the boat - pretty weird way to do that.
