: Trying to plan an economical trip for August.
: Considering Costa Club (possibly with all inclusive plan since free alcohol could be nice),or the Lorena, since we hear they have refrigerators in the room. A good beach with decent snorkeling is preferred along with good hot showers and clean rooms. Also is it better to book the room yourself or go through a travel agent. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

: thanks in advance

Okay, I haven't stayed at either. They both look decent, but Costa Club is across the street from the ocean with a tunnel to the beach. Lorena is on the beach, but I don't remember it being very sandy. Lack of sand is a good thing if you want to snorkel. You'll find more marine life there than at a sandy beach.

I've stayed at Casa del Mar and they were decent. They are across the road but with bridge access. You can also just cross the street if you're not there during high season. Traffic in July wasn't too bad and you didn't have to do the bridge. I liked it there.

Now if you're looking for real savings, try booking an air only package through Apple Vacations, Funjet, ATA, or Travel Charters. Something like that. It will be your best airfare. You could also try Priceline.com...I haven't done that, but I have some friends who did.

Then book a room at Alicia's Bed and Breakfast. The rooms go for $35/night. That gives you bed or hammock (I like sleeping in a hammock), ceiling fan, a/c, mini-fridge, sparkly clean rooms, your own bathroom, and they throw in an awesome breakfast. The only drawback is that it is not oceanside. It's in a neighborhood away from the beach. If you rent a car, then it's no problemo. If you don't (and I don't) you will have no trouble catching a taxi to where you want to go. There is a supermarket and restaurants within walking distance. You can safely walk anywhere on the island...I walked and walked and walked...alone...this last August. You can't do better than Alicia's. http://www.gis.net/~alicia/cozumel.html Check out their website.
