: We are planning a family vacation to Cozumel. We have three children. Any recommendations for My son and I stayed at Casa del Mar in July of '99. It was the cheapest place I could find on the beach. The room wasn't real big, but everything was clean and the staff was friendly. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I don't know how to get photos off a video and that's what we took. There are great tropical plants in the gardens and they have a relatively shallow pool, with a volleyball net. The restaurant wasn't all that cheap, but Ernesto's Fajita Factory is just a couple of doors down. They have a cheap American breakfast and others have raved about their fajitas. I have only had the one meal there, so I can't comment further. It is just across the street and down from La Ceiba. La Ceiba (say-ba) is a sister hotel and therefore you can use their beach too. It's a bit better than Casa del Mar. They both have chaise lounges, and palapas on the beach. It's seawall and rocky entrance or steps. Not the best for small kids, but you can always catch a taxi and go to Playa Azul for their beach. It's great for small kids. If you snorkel, there is a sunken airplane from an old Mexican movie that is off the shore of La Ceiba. Playa Azul is a bit more expensive but there is a hotel by that name as well as the beach club I mentioned. I hear they are charming and reasonably priced. I do believe they are more expensive than Casa del Mar. I was totally pleased with what I got for my money at Casa del Mar. It was kinda like a Super 8 with tropical foliage. Not the pampering you might find elsewhere, but not the price either. :o)
