![]() The hotels in the South hotel zone are more for snorkeling and diving and such. I think the ones north of town might have a more traditional "beach" environment. Fiesta Americana had a man-made beach, which was servicable, but not thrilling. We still had the urge to rent a car and drive to the other side of the island where there are many lovely sandy beaches (Chen Rio was our favorite). You'll probably need to resign yourself to taking cabs into town fairly often (in my opinion it's the best part of Cozumel, but I don't snorkel or dive). Fortunately, they're not that expensive. The cab was about $5 one way from Fiesta Americana, but most of the other hotels are closer, so the ride would be a little cheaper. Besides, it's always an adventure to put your life in the hands of a Cozumel cabbie.
