I think it's unfair to say to stay away from the Casa del Mar. It is rated as a 2 star hotel. It is a very good hotel for the money. I enjoyed my stay there. I found the Palapa restaurant was a bit more expensive than it warranted, but the hotel was fine. You can't expect luxury from a hotel that is rated 2 stars. But when you look at the price, it is well worth it. I chose to spend my money snorkeling and fishing. I had a great time and I do not regret choosing Casa del Mar.

I've moved on to staying at Alicia's Bed and Breakfast. I get a nice clean room, great breakfast, and a family atmosphere for a much better price. It's a more "local" experience. I don't go for the luxurious living. I go for the cultural and tropical experience. I'm happy with my choice.
