: Okay I am about to book a weeks vacation at the Fiesta Americana Dive Resort. I don't want to book it and then read that the place is a hole. So if everyone/anyone could give me some insight, I would be eturnally in your debt. Actually, I would just "owe you one". So please come one come all and let me know about this place. I am going the main thing I want to do is Dive when I am there is this a good place? How far from town is it? All info is useful. Thanks

I would rate Fiesta Americana higher than Panchita did. I am a mid-Michigan elementary teacher and not a world class traveler. I am happy with Holiday Inn. So take that as a guide to my opinion.

We stayed a week at Fiesta Americana at Easter in '99. We stayed all inclusive because it was our first trip to Mexico and I was very unsure of what I'd find.

I loved the place. It is clean, pretty, not too close to town, not too far from town, and I thought the food was very good. (But then I've been known to eat pizza at the school cafeteria!) The front desk was a bit formal in my opinion, but the wait staff was very friendly and because we ate most of our meals on the property, we got to know them and they joked a lot with us. If I hadn't gone all inclusive, I would have eaten more in town. Their food prices are bit on the high side.

I've been back to Cozumel a couple of times since then and I'm headed back at Christmas. I now choose to stay at Alicia's Bed and Breakfast because I like the more "local" atmosphere. But I would never dis the Fiesta Americana. It did for us what I wanted on that first trip.

At Easter we had no trouble finding a chair on the beach. We had to wait for the free snorkeling gear. When some became available, we used it. I now take my own and that eliminates that problem.

The view is to die for. The whole atmosphere is very nice and very tropical. How can you not love it?

We don't dive...yet, but check around. Try the Rodale's board for divers. Check out Travelnotes. Both have divers posting who will tell you if Dive House is a good op. But if it's not, then just book with Dive with Martin or Isidro at Sea Urchin. Both get great reviews. They can still pick you up at FA's pier. There is no problem with that.

Relax. Don't obsess. Cozumel is wonderful. Drink bottled water and eat from reputable places and you should have no trouble. You're gonna love it! :o)
