it's not a pit! I stayed there in February/March and it's okay. I didn't use the dive facility but it seemed quite busy and the people I talked to who did employ them seemed to enjoy themselves. The hotel itself is across the street from the beach - there's a large pool on the hotel side, a bridge and a smaller pool (usually frequented by kids) and a restaurant on the beach. The beach is built up with iron shore making water access tricky unless you just jump in from the pier. If you are going to lay around the beach, our experience was to keep towels from the night before, get up at 7am, run down to the beach and put towels and items on lounges, then do your thing until your ready to do some beach sitting. If you don't do this you won't get chairs or palapas. The hotel offers an all-inclusive plan but the food is just okay in my opinion. The breakfast buffet is standard but good, lunch is also pretty standard food - not bad except for the nachos - they use american cheeze whiz! -blech- The buffet dinners that we did see were in warming trays and not very appetizing looking.
Rooms in the main building all have ocean views, are clean, well appointed and sizable. They have casita suites behind the hotel in a 'jungle' setting that are larger with hamocks on small patios, but no views to speak of and more of a walk to and from the beach.
It cost about $5 to get into town by taxi, and taxi's were easy to get - either at the lobby or by walking down to the road and just flagging one down.
The hotel isn't the best place I've stayed on Cozumel, but it wasn't a 'bad' experience - just a little on the generic side.
