: Fly into Cancun, then you can take the ferry to Cozumel from Playa, a taxi or van will drive you to the ferry. Iberostar is nice. They have an excellent dive shop at the resort where you can go on dives. I suggest you dive Palancar and Columbia. They are great. It would also be a good idea to take the ferry to Playa Del Carmen and see some ruins or go on a snorkling tour there. Iberostar has rooms in Bungalo style. It's neat. If you have any more questions please e-mail me. cmneus@webtv.com I have another resort I would suggest over Iberostar, but if ya wanna know about it e-mail me and ask me about it.

I wouldn't recommend the ferry approach to Cozumel from the Cancun airport. I did that on Aug. 5 and it was a long hot ride and it took far too much of my time.

If you can get a flight directly into Cozumel, do it. It is by far the quickest way. I know Continental flies to Cozumel, but I don't know who else does.

If you fly to Cancun, you can catch a plane from Cancun to Cozumel. It's Aeromexico or Aerocaribe...something like that. At any rate, when I booked my flight to Cozumel through a travel agent, once I flew direct and the other time I stopped at Cancun and changed flights. It was no big deal. You might have to wait in the smaller terminal for a while, but it beats trekking across the Yucatan (and past all of the Cancun hotels) to get to Playa del Carmen. It's just more expedient and comfortable to fly all the way.

I recommend Alicia's Bed and Breakfast for a great place to stay. You can visit Alicia's and Chuco's website at http://www.gis.net/~alicia/cozumel.html

I spent 10 days in August at Alicia's and found it to be a wonderful experience. She has three different rooms with air conditioning and their own bathroom. There is a fourth air conditioned room which requires sharing a bathroom with Alicia and Chuco. That's where I stayed and it was a lot more convenient than I had anticipated. They juggle their shower schedule around yours so that they don't interfere with your plans. Very considerate.

It is located in a residential area and is just one house of a main street (65)so that it's easy to catch a cab. It only took me 5 minutes to catch a cab one day at 5:30 in the morning. There was very little traffic, but I only waited 5 minutes for a cab.

Alicia is American and has lived in Cozumel for 10 years. Chuco is Maya and built the b & b and is the resident cook. He makes fantastic breakfasts and the best guacamole you've ever had.

Chuco used to work on the ocean and knows a lot of people who still do. He can recommend reputable, experienced people to dive with.

I don't dive, but while I was at Alicia's, Randy was there and dove every day with Dive with Martin. He was very pleased with the operation.

Staying at a b & b will save you money and get you into the local scene. It will keep you out of the touristy ratrace. So if that's what you're looking for, try going to the website and checking out the place. It's immaculately clean and wonderfully friendly. I'll never stay anywhere else on Cozumel again.
