We didn't take kids when we went last Easter, but your description of a good hotel sounds like Fiesta Americana Cozumel Dive Resort. That's where we stayed and we really enjoyed it. We stayed All Inclusive although it's optional at the Fiesta Americana. We thought the food was great. There were opportunities to eat local dishes, but if you're not all that adventuresome, they had American fare as well. We did not get anything we didn't like. The beach is connected to the hotel with a bridge across the road. The pools are on the hotel side of the road. We stayed on the seventh floor (top floor) and the view was grand. All rooms face the ocean.
If you choose to take any day trips, the boats can pick you up right at your pier. They also have a dive shop connected, but we don't dive so I don't know much about it.
The rooms are large, clean, air conditioned and well maintained. The staff is great...friendly, helpful, fun loving and polite.
We thought it was a great place to stay. I'm not sure if they have a kids' club or not, but I did see kids painting ceramics one day poolside, so maybe they do.
I don't think you'll be sorry if you book the Fiesta Americana Cozumel Dive Resort. Not to be confused with the Fiesta Inn.
