This last two-week trip, I think we actually stayed at our resort two whole days. The rest of the time, we beach-hopped, snorkeled, dived, etc. The room turned out to be just a place to stow our stuff, change clothes for dinner and sleep. Of course, this was one of our more on-the-go vacations. Personally, I like a beachfront hotel because I like to sit on my balcony and read or gaze at the water. You can't get that with an in-town B&B. On the other hand, I spent quite a bit of time with Alicia of Alicia's B&B (besides staying there one night) and there's a lot to be said about getting the local flavor of Cozumel by staying in town with people who live there year round. You'll also save $$ over the major hotels and will be able to afford a car for the week and the luxury of tooling around at your whim.
